Do eggs float in water? We found out …..NO. But, if you add salt to the water, they do float. This is because adding salt makes the water more dense. Just like thick honey or washing up liquid. Do other objects float in water without salt? Try it at home to find out.

Do you know what a tornado is? Do you know how they are formed?

Children in science club have been learning how they are made in real life. We had a go at making our own tornado in a bottle.

Today in science club the children made paper clip chains using magnets. We found that some of the magnets held more paper clips than others. We thought this might be because some magnets are bigger and stronger than others. We talked about magnets ‘attracting’ materials made from certain types of metal. The y3s and 4s are learning about this in their science lessons at the moment.

Do you know happens when you mix oil and water? The children in science club found out today.

We found that oil and water don’t mix unless we added washing up liquid.

For our first session, the children have been learning about static electricity. We used balloons, a comb and tissue paper. Look at what happened to our hair and the tissue paper when we rubbed the balloon against our jumpers.
